What Are Third-Party Tested Supplements? (And Why It Matters)

We live in a time where health is a priority. To support it, we often turn to supplements… but should we trust them blindly?

Having access to supplements tested by a third party, with results publicly available, should be the standard, not the exception.

What is a third-party tested supplement?

A third-party tested supplement is a product whose contents have been independently verified by a laboratory that has no financial relationship with the manufacturer. The lab's only job is to confirm whether the product matches its label. Nothing more, nothing less.

Many brands run internal quality checks, which is a good starting point, but internal testing means the same company making the product is also grading it. Third-party testing removes that conflict entirely.

Why Third-Party Testing Matters

The supplement industry isn’t always as transparent as it should be. Which is why our mission was clear:To be the most transparent supplements brand. We proudly lead the change in elevating the industry's integrity and transparency standards.

Without independent testing:

  • Label claims may not always reflect the actual contents
  • Ingredient quality can vary between batches
  • Consumers have limited ways to verify what they’re buying

That’s why third-party testing plays an important role, and it adds an extra layer of accountability.

If you’re taking supplements regularly, you deserve clarity and confidence in what you’re using.

Are all supplements third-party tested?

No, and this surprises a lot of people. In Canada and the United States, supplement manufacturers are not legally required to have their products independently tested before selling them. Quality standards exist, but the additional 3rd party testing is not mandatory.

While many brands mention quality control, not all supplements are:

  • Independently tested
  • Verified by external labs
  • Transparent with their results

Even more importantly:

👉 Most brands do not make their test results publicly available.

This makes it difficult for consumers to fully assess product quality.

What Does Third-Party Testing Actually Verify?

A proper third-party testing process can evaluate:

✔ Ingredient Identity

Confirms that the ingredients listed on the label are actually present in the product — not substitutes or fillers.

✔ Dosage Accuracy

Verifies that the quantity of each ingredient matches the label. If it says 5g of creatine, there should be 5g of creatine.

✔ Batch Consistency

Ensures every production run meets the same standards — so the product you buy today is the same as the one you bought last month.

How to Know If a Supplement Is Truly Transparent

If you want to make more informed choices, here are a few things to look for:

  • Does the brand mention third-party testing?
  • Are the test results accessible to consumers?
  • Is there clear information about ingredient sourcing and quality?

If test results aren’t available, you’re relying on trust rather than verification.

Where Believe Supplements Fits In

When we founded Believe Supplements in 2016 in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, the goal was straightforward: build a brand where transparency wasn't just a claim, it was something customers could actually verify.

Every product in our lineup goes through an independent third-party lab before it reaches shelves. Through our TrueCheck™ program, we publish all test results publicly on our website, searchable by product and lot number. There's no form to fill out, no waiting, the data is just there, open to anyone who wants to check.

Through our TrueCheck™ system, every product is:

  • Tested by an independent third-party lab
  • Verified for purity and accuracy
  • Made with results publicly accessible

This approach helps give you visibility into what you’re using, so you can make more informed decisions.

INFORMED Protein: Going one step further!

We recently even took it further with our new Isolate Protein,  a dual-protein blend of milk protein isolate and beef protein isolate (hydrolyzed collagen peptides) designed to support muscle recovery, joint health, and everyday performance.

What is INFORMED Protein and why does it matter?

Isolate Protein is certified through the INFORMED Protein program and independently tested to verify that the protein content on the label is accurate and that the amino acid profile matches the protein source used. Strict standards must be met, as certifying products requires verification of protein levels within 2% of the label claim.

The INFORMED Protein certification also helps detect practices known as amino or nitrogen spiking, where lower-cost amino acids, such as glycine, are used to artificially inflate protein test results without providing the full nutritional value of real protein.

The INFORMED seal represents rigorous third-party verification, including testing for nitrogen contaminants and proof of heavy metals testing, reinforcing our commitment to transparency, quality, and delivering the real protein you expect in every scoop.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is amino spiking and how does Believe Supplements prevent it?

Amino spiking is when manufacturers add low-cost amino acids  (like glycine or taurine) to inflate a product's apparent protein content on standard nitrogen tests, without providing the full nutritional value of real protein. Our Isolate Protein's Informed Protein certification specifically tests for this, verifying that protein content comes from legitimate protein sources and matches the label within 2%.

Where can I see Believe Supplements' third-party test results?

All results are publicly available directly on the website, at support@believesupplements.com or here.  You can search by product and lot number to verify the exact batch you have. No account or request needed, the results are open to everyone.

Are all Believe Supplements products third-party tested?

Yes. Every product we sell is part of our TrueCheck™ program, meaning each one is independently tested by a third-party laboratory before release, with results published online. Our Isolate Protein additionally carries the Informed Protein certification.

Where are Believe Supplements products manufactured?

All products are designed, tested, and manufactured at our own facility in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, Canada. We've operated our own lab since the company was founded in 2016, which gives us direct control over quality at every stage of production.
